Here’s What You Need to Know

This page provides all the key details to help you prepare for your special moment.

The graduation process begins with you! If you are completing a degree program, you must submit a graduation application through Self-Service.

If you are earning an Adult High School Diploma or High School Equivalency, please contact the College & Career Readiness department for graduation requirements and application details.

A memo with important details about your graduation ceremony will be emailed to you in April—keep an eye on your inbox!

Graduation Regalia - Dress for Success!

Graduation isn’t just an event; it’s a moment to shine!

Your cap, gown, tassel, and 10 invitations are provided at no extra cost—they are included in your college fees and are yours to keep as a memento of this milestone achievement.

If you have earned additional honors, such as a Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) stole or a National Technical Honor Society cord, you may purchase them at the Bookstore to complete your graduation attire.

Honor cords awarded for GPA will be distributed at the graduation ceremony.

Graduates are required to wear a black cap and gown for the ceremony. Tassels should be worn on the right side before crossing the stage and moved to the left after receiving the diploma cover. Appropriate attire should be worn under the gown, such as dress pants, skirts, or dresses with dress shoes. Avoid casual clothing, jeans, flip-flops, or excessively high heels, as they may interfere with walking across the stage.

Seating Guidelines

In accordance with fire code regulations and to ensure the safety and comfort of all attendees, standing inside the auditorium will not be permitted. Additionally, guests will not be allowed to save seats. If your group would like to sit together, please plan to arrive and enter the auditorium at the same time.

Livestream Available

For any family or friends who are unable to attend in person, we will be livestreaming the ceremony on the McDowell Tech Facebook page. We hope this helps everyone feel included in this special celebration, near or far.

Clear Bag Policy

Please note that the venue’s clear bag policy will be enforced. Guests may bring one clear bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", or a small clutch no larger than 4.5" x 6.5". This is to ensure a safe and efficient entry process for everyone attending.

Celebration Items

To maintain the cleanliness of the venue and ensure a smooth cleanup process, confetti poppers, glitter, silly string, and similar items are not permitted inside the auditorium. We appreciate your help in keeping the space respectful and ready for future events.
